COMPLEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE

1st Edition, Biennale di Venezia, Magazzini del Sale, 1978

2nd Edition, exhibition La fine del mondo, Centro Pecci per l'Arte Contemporanea, Prato, 2016

This is a vertical reading that starts out from the paving of the former salt warehouse. In a way, it reproduces in elevation what is said in two dimensions by the paving. It is a reference to the complements of architecture because it is a history of architecture, beginning with the flagstone, the piece of rock as it can be found in nature, that is then structured into a wall in which the stone is gradually worked until, in the final section, it is polished like a mirror.

It is a symbolic history of architecture, in this space where the salt still emerges from the walls: all the intermediate phases, from the collection of scattered pieces of rock, piled up to make a heap, to the hewn and polished stone, its surface as shiny as a mirror.
