A forest of suspended strips of paper, a conference room completely filled with these strips of paper. Everyone who came to hear the lecture was given a pair of scissors with which to cut a way through the strips. To meet up with the others, as there were several entrances to the room, the participants had to create various tunnels and clear a space in the middle. When everyone had reached the center of the room (from which all the chairs had been removed beforehand), Gianni Pettena started his lecture with the audience seated on the cut strips of paper piled on the floor. This “lesson” about space was an integral part of the lecture as the space, although created in a fairly random way, had been identified and therefore “constructed” by each of the participants.
